Attendance:

Arrival/Departure: Students may arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.  Children are not to arrive at school prior to 8:30.  Students go to the cafeteria/gym each day.  All students must be picked up before 4:00 p.m. when supervision ends.

School Hours:

                PreKindergarten/Kindergarten

                Morning               9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

                Afternoon            1:00 – 3:30 p.m.

                Grades 1-5            9:00 – 3:30 p.m.

Tardies and Absenteeism: Promptness and regularity are essential characteristics for success.  Pupils arriving or leaving early disrupt the entire class.  Students are expected to be in class at 9:00.  Students who arrive at 9:00 or after must check in with the office and pick up a late pass.  Parents or guardians should contact the school secretary on days on which students must be absent.  Parents of unaccounted students will be contacted by the office.

A student is entitled to be counted present only on those days when in actual attendance or in scheduled school activities under the direction and supervision of a regular member of the faculty.

The student must be in attendance at least two (2) of the first three hours or two (2) of the last three hours to be recorded present one-half day, each for the morning and afternoon.  Students should be present except for the following reasons: personal illness, serious personal or family problems, pre-arranged family activities or religious observance, upon advance notice to the school.

Students shall not be excused from school to take private lessons of any kind except in those instances in which the school cannot provide appropriate facilities and/or instruction.

The school attendance officer shall notify parents of excessive, unexcused absences (four or more days or parts of days within a four-week period or ten or more days or parts of days within a semester) and report such absences to the Oklahoma/Logan County District Attorney for juvenile proceedings.

Early Checkout: If a student must leave during the school day, only parents, guardians, or those designated on the enrollment card may check him/her out.  Students shall only be released through the office.

Closing School: Oklahoma’s severe weather occasionally makes it necessary to close school.  Area television and radio stations will alert the public when this decision has been made.  Early dismissal is not common practice in the Edmond School System due to the inconvenience it would cause working parents.

Make-up work: Parents may call for homework of an absent student.  Homework is to be picked up in the office at the end of the day.  Parents may not interrupt class to get their child’s homework.
